Closing a Chapter

Almost fifteen years ago, I started Cobble Hill.

At the time, there was no grand plan. I wanted to build a company that did thoughtful work, treated people well, and helped good brands become better businesses. I knew a little about web design, graphic design, photography, and video.

Over time and an insufferable drive and hustle that idea became much more.

Cobble Hill grew into an award-winning agency with an extraordinary team, trusted clients, and a way of working that felt distinctly our own. We partnered with companies including Warner Brothers, Le Creuset, Draper James, Pure Barre, American Cancer Society, Cynthia Rowley, Frances Valentine, Freda Salvador, Marysia, LAKE, and many, many others.

The work mattered to me, but more importantly was how we did it. We cared about the details. We valued good judgment. We tried to be honest, useful, creative, and accountable. We built relationships that lasted, and a culture that reflected the people inside it.

Last June, I sold Cobble Hill to Pyxl.

The following year was focused on bringing the companies together. That meant integrating the team, clients, capabilities, systems, and culture into a larger organization while protecting the things that had made Cobble Hill special.

With that work now complete, I have transitioned out of my role at Pyxl.

It is difficult to summarize what Cobble Hill has meant to me. I started the company before much of my current life had taken shape. It grew alongside my marriage, my family, and my children. For nearly fifteen years, it was part of the daily rhythm of our lives.

There were long days and sleepless nights, uncertain stretches, mistakes, breakthroughs, difficult decisions, and more meaningful relationships than I could count. There were also moments when I stepped back and realized that something which began as a small idea had become a real company, with a reputation, a point of view, and a life beyond me.

I am deeply proud of what we built. I am proud of the team and the standard they set. I am proud of the work and the trust our clients placed in us. I am proud that we built a company with its own character, and most importantly that we found a home for it where the work could continue.

I am also thankful for the past year at Pyxl and for everyone who helped carry the business through the integration. Bringing two companies together is complicated work, and I appreciate the effort, patience, and care that went into the process.

Closing this chapter feels significant. It also feels energizing. For the first time in a long time, I have room to step back, follow my curiosity, and think more broadly about what I want to build next.

I am especially interested in the things that resist easy optimization. Taste, craft, place, hospitality, human judgment, and the details that make a thing truly feel alive.

I do not have a polished announcement about what comes next and I suppose that is part of what makes this moment exciting.

For now, I am looking forward to reconnecting with people, hearing what they are working on, and learning about the ideas, businesses, and opportunities taking shape around me.
